Prospects
Although there is no cure for psoriasis yet, getting proper treatment will help you to manage your symptoms and maintain a normal daily life. It’s also important to recognise and avoid things that can trigger your psoriasis flares.
You may find that your psoriasis comes and goes, varying between 1 or 2 flaky inflamed patches and more widespread patches.
Psoriasis can be controlled through a variety of treatments. These include topical treatments (creams and ointments applied to the skin), phototherapy (also known as ultraviolet light therapy), or systemic treatments, including biologic therapies which work from the inside of your body.
Contrary to common myth, psoriasis is not contagious, but other people’s behaviour and your own feelings about your psoriasis can affect your relationships and family life. It can also affect your work as some treatments for psoriasis require hospital appointments, so you may need to take time off from work to attend. (click here to see more information on employment)
